Family-owned bakery Aulds has placed its retail business into liquidation.
The firm blame supermarket competition and rising wage costs and as a result, the 118 year old business as been losing money.
Aulds have 5 stores in Renfrewshire, 3 in Paisley on Glasgow Road, Neilston Road and in the Piazza. There is a store on Hairst Street Renfrew and High Street Johnstone.
There are 26 stores across Scotland and they will continue to trade in the meantime as liquidators search for a buyer.
They will continue to supply bakery products to Scotmid stores and other independent outlets where they are currently sold.
Their bakeries in Greenock and Inchinnan, who employ 200 people will continue to operate as normal.
Founded 118 years ago, the group reported a loss of £430,000 in turnover of £15.4m in the year to 1st April 2017. Turnover increased from £15.2m the previous year.
Mhairi Black SNP MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire South, said: “The news that Aulds are placing their retail arm into liquidation brings huge uncertainty and stress to the people in Renfrewshire who work in the local stores throughout the area.
“Aulds has been a staple throughout Renfrewshire for such a long time and it will be very sad if stores are forced to close.
“It is deeply upsetting that staff working in Renfrewshire shops are potentially facing job losses, and my thoughts are with all of those who are now confronting this awful uncertainty.”
