It’s not every day you enjoy lunch in a library that used to be Turkish baths so Paisley & District University of the Third Age (U3A) relished their recent trip to Dumfries House at Cumnock. The full day visit round this 18th century stately home in Ayrshire designed by Robert Adam included an extensive tour of the house and huge walled garden.

U3A Chair Kathleen O’Donnell said: “We really had a wonderful day at Dumfries House and we felt very grand eating lunch in such a fabulous location.

“The visit was extremely interesting. We saw fine architecture and rare antiques, as well as some beautiful furniture by Thomas Chippendale. This has been a worthwhile project for the local area, giving work to 200 people and is Ayrshire’s second biggest employer.”

Paisley & District U3A also holds monthly meetings with informative guest speakers.

The next guest is Malcolm Christie who will outline the last years of the British Empire in Africa. This free meeting starts at 2pm on Thursday 4th July in the Salvation Army Hall, Paisley.
