McGill’s Buses will change to an emergency timetable and stop giving change to customers from Monday.

When the new timetable begins almost all services will continue to operate but at half of their normal frequency. Bosses have said the move will protect jobs.

Also from Monday, no change will be carried by drivers. The firm will accept contactless payments as well as e-tickets though the McGill’s mobile phone app. Cash can still be used but passengers must have the correct money.

McGill’s, said: “This decision has been made for hygiene reasons and to stay in line with the recommended social distancing guidance.”

They added: “We understand that over the coming weeks it is important that our communities have access to the vital public service our company provides, therefore, from Monday 23rd March, we will be operating emergency timetables.

“Almost all services will continue to operate, most at half of their normal frequency.  Precautions have been taken to ensure all journeys are still possible at this time.”
