Douglas Alexander, the former Scottish Labour MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire South, is to stand as a candidate for East Lothian in Westminster Elections in 2025.

He lost his seat to the SNP’s Mhairi Black in 2015 and previously was in both Tony Blair and Gordon Brown’s cabinet.

On Twitter, Alexander wrote: “He’s running! Humbled and grateful to be overwhelmingly selected today by local party members as Scottish Labour’s candidate for East Lothian.

“Change is coming to our country and I’m determined to play my part by winning East Lothian back for Scottish Labour.”
