A woman who tragically died in a fire in Paisley yesterday has been named locally as Claire McFadyen.

Claire, who was 38 years old and a mother, was home alone when a fire broke out at a block of flats on Belmont Road in the Gallowhill area of Paisley.

Six fire appliances battled a large blaze at eight homes from 10.45pm last night though to early morning.

This morning a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.45pm on Thursday, 13 April, 2023, police were called to reports of a fire at a property on Belmont Road, Paisley.

“A 38-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers remain in attendance and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“Anyone with information should call 101 quoting reference 3922 of 13 April, 2023.”
