Renfrewshire parents and carers with a child due to turn 5 soon are being urged to register them for school.

Between 1st and 7th November, parents and carers can register their child for their local school using the online form on Renfrewshire Council’s website.

Children must turn 5 between 1st March 2024 and 28th February 2025 to attend school from August 2024.

Parents and carers will have the choice of their catchment area’s denominational (Roman Catholic) or non-denominational school, or the Gaelic unit at West Primary.

Placing requests to send a child to another school outside the catchment area they live in can be made up until 30 March 2024.

Anyone with a child aged 4 when they are due to start school can apply to get an additional year at nursery and delay when their child goes to school. They must register their child for school first, then speak to their nursery. This form is also available on the Council’s website.

Those who cannot fill out the online form can speak to their local school about registering. Parents and carers can also call 0300 300 0170 for advice and support.

Education and Children’s Services convener, Councillor Emma Rodden, said: “Getting your child registered for school is an important milestone for all parents and carers. It’s now easier than ever with an online registration form, but parents and carers can speak to their local school to register if they can’t do it online.”
