Parents, carers and residents in Dargavel Village are being asked for their views on a proposed site for an additional primary school in the area.

An additional primary school is being proposed for the area to provide capacity for the number of pupils expected as the housing development continues to grow.

The consultation will gather the views of the local community on the location of the additional primary school as well as the catchment for both the new and existing primary schools when the new one opens.

People can read details on the proposals and the rationale behind it on Renfrewshire Council’s website and in local libraries. Parents and carers can also see the proposals at Dargavel Primary School.

A series of information events are being held in Dargavel Primary School on Wednesday 14, Thursday 15, Monday 26 and Thursday 29 February. All sessions are between 6pm and 9pm and people must register to attend.

Two public meetings will be held on Monday 19 February and Tuesday 5 March in Dargavel Primary School from 7pm to 9pm. Parents and carers will be able to give their views on both the proposed site for the new school and the catchment for both schools.

Council officers will also be meeting with the parent councils for Dargavel and Bishopton primary schools as well as local community representatives.

Everyone living in Dargavel can submit their views on the proposal through an online questionnaire until it closes on Tuesday 26 March.

Janie O’Neill, Director of Children’s Services, said: “We want to get the views of everyone in the community, whether they have a child currently at primary school or have a child due to attend in the next few years. To ensure we give everyone an opportunity, we have set up a number of events where people can come along to ask any questions or find out more about any aspect of the plans. It’s important to get as many views as possible which will then inform our next steps.”

Councillor Emma Rodden, Convener of the Council’s Education and Children’s Services Policy Board, added: “Work has been underway at pace since the capacity issue in Dargavel was identified and we want to progress a solution that ensures the best possible learning experience for all children.

“There will be a range of ways people can find out more about the proposals and I hope this allows everyone the opportunity to find out more and provide their views on the proposals.”
