Two police officers have been injured in an incident in Paisley where a man was seen chasing an officer with what appears to be a chainsaw.

There were reports of a disturbance at around 1pm today after a collision involving a car and a stationary police vehicle on Glasgow Road in Paisley.

Shortly afterwards footage was posted on social media showing a man running with what was thought to be a chainsaw. In one video you can hear officers shouting commands while a suspect is seen chasing a lone police officer down a street with a weapon.

Another video posted online shows a suspect being detained by several uniformed and plainclothes officers.

A 30-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

A statement issued by Police Scotland, said: “Around 1pm on Monday, 6 May, 2024, a disturbance involving a weapon occurred following a collision involving a car and a stationary police vehicle on Glasgow Road in Paisley.

“Two officers were injured and were treated by paramedics.

“A 30-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

“There is no wider risk to the public and officers remain at the scene while enquiries are ongoing.”

 The road was reopened later the same day at around 7pm.
