Nicole Aitken, a volunteer from Bishopton currently working in Tanzania, has launched a fundraiser to repair Almo Day and Night Childcare, a centre for vulnerable children now in critical disrepair.
Many of the centre’s rooms are roofless or dangerously unstable, exposing children who live, sleep, and learn there to daily safety hazards.
The facility’s kitchen consists of a single pot over an open fire, where one cup of porridge is prepared each day under unsanitary conditions. Frequent illnesses among the children are linked to the lack of clean cooking equipment, safe food storage, and proper nutrition.
So far, Nicole’s campaign has raised £519—surpassing her initial £500 target. The funds will go directly toward structural repairs, building a new kitchen, and improving daily meals. “Every bit helps us give these kids a safer, healthier place to grow,” she says.
Supporters can contribute through Nicole’s fundraiser page, here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/almo-day-and-night-childcare, ensuring that Almo Day and Night Childcare becomes a secure, nourishing environment for the children it serves.
