Demolition work has started today on Well Street in Paisley as part of a major regeneration project in the town’s West End.

Contractors have moved in to clear properties at 4, 15, 17, 24 and 28 Well Street, as well as 1 Clavering Street East. The works mean waiting, loading and parking restrictions will be in place on Well Street between numbers 12 and 26 until Sunday, 21st September 2025. Only works vehicles are permitted, with any other vehicles left in the area set to be removed.

Renfrewshire Council confirmed the buildings are being brought down through “mechanical demolition using a variety of machinery” once the area has been made safe.

Over the next six months, more properties on Clavering Street East, Well Street and Underwood Lane will be demolished to prepare the site for new social housing.

This latest phase forms part of the Paisley West End Regeneration Masterplan, a multi-million-pound project first proposed nine years ago. The masterplan will see around 150 new private and social homes built, creating a modern neighbourhood with much better connections to the town centre.

The development is being delivered in partnership between Renfrewshire Council and Sanctuary Scotland. Earlier this year, the first phase was completed, with 35 new homes handed over to tenants on Underwood Lane and Sutherland Street. Sanctuary Scotland has also delivered new social housing on the site of the former Co-op on Wellmeadow Street.

Sanctuary is now preparing the next stages of the masterplan, with demolition making way for more housing to be developed over the coming months.
