Families in East Renfrewshire have received more than £21.6 million in financial support to help cover the additional costs of caring for a disabled child or young person.

The latest figures from Social Security Scotland show that by the end of June 2025, around 1,500 local children and young people were receiving Child Disability Payment.

The benefit is designed to help families with the extra costs that come with raising a child or young person who is disabled, has a long-term health condition, or is terminally ill. It is available to parents and carers regardless of whether they are working or have savings.

Since the Child Disability Payment was introduced in 2021, over £1.2 billion has been paid to the families of almost 105,000 disabled children and young people across Scotland.
