Schools and nurseries across Renfrewshire are being invited to apply for a free real Christmas tree as part of a festive community campaign launched at Dobbies in Braehead.
The garden centre has teamed up with Scottish grower Needlefresh to donate more than 220 Nordmann Fir trees to early years settings and primary schools located within 20 miles of the store.
The initiative was launched today (Thursday 9th October) to coincide with Dobbies’ Christmas Launch Weekend, which runs from 9th to 13th October and features special offers and new festive collections.
Local schools and nurseries can apply by completing a short online form before the deadline of 5pm on Thursday 6th November. Successful applicants will be contacted in mid-November and will be able to collect their tree on 27th November or arrange another suitable date with the store.
Nigel Lawton, Plant Buyer at Dobbies, said the giveaway is designed to bring “a bit of festive magic” to children in the area.
“Our Dobbies Community Christmas Tree campaign is a great opportunity to spread festive joy with local schools and nurseries near our Braehead store, showing children the magic a real Christmas tree can bring. We can’t wait to see what the successful applicants do with their trees,” he said.
He also shared some care tips, advising that Nordmann Fir trees should be kept hydrated and positioned away from direct heat to help them stay fresh throughout the festive period.
The trees are sustainably grown in Scotland by Needlefresh, where they are planted, pruned and harvested by hand.
Kenneth Mitchell from Needlefresh said: “We are proud to once again support Dobbies with their community Christmas tree initiative that allows schools and nurseries near its Braehead store the opportunity to enjoy a real Christmas tree as part of their festive celebrations.”
