People across Renfrewshire are being encouraged to get moving this November to help power life-saving cancer research — one workout at a time.

Stand Up To Cancer, the joint fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4, is challenging people to take part in its ‘Sweat Every Day in November’ challenge.

The idea is simple — complete 30 minutes of exercise every day throughout November. Whether it’s a jog around the park, yoga at home, or a few push-ups in the living room, every bit counts.

Everyone who signs up will receive a free resistance band and a Stand Up To Cancer sports t-shirt to help them stay motivated.

Lisa Adams, Cancer Research UK’s spokesperson for Scotland, said:
“Now is the time to Stand Up To Cancer. Working out has never had a greater purpose. We’re asking everyone to switch off the snooze button, put the excuses on mute and commit to 30 minutes for 30 days.

“There’s no better motivation than helping others to spend more precious moments with their loved ones. Whether people reach for their kettlebells, boxing gloves, yoga mat or running shoes, every drop of sweat helps fuel more life-saving discoveries.”

In Scotland, around 34,600 people are diagnosed with cancer every year, and by 2040, it’s estimated that one person in the UK will be diagnosed every two minutes.

Money raised through the challenge helps fund cutting-edge research and trials, including studies that show regular exercise can cut the risk of death for people recovering from colon cancer by more than a third.

Since its launch in 2012, Stand Up To Cancer has raised more than £113 million, funding over 70 clinical trials and research projects involving more than 13,000 cancer patients.
