A major new £1million active play facility is set to be created at the Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley after a contract was awarded to bring the project forward.

The new space will include a TAG Active arena designed to test strategy, speed, agility and bravery, with players using wristband sensors to collect points from lights placed throughout a multi-level climbing maze.

The arena will include tunnels, crawl spaces, a cargo-climb maze, giant inflatable balls and climbing frames, all built to encourage fitness, fun and friendly competition.

A dedicated baby and toddler zone will feature interactive toys, slides, ramps, dangly snakes, bashbags, balance boxes and giant building cubes, giving younger children their own space to explore. There will also be a free-play area with chutes, slides and climbing frames.

Support for children with additional needs has been built into the plans through a dedicated sensory area, which will include interactive panels, beanbags and mirrors in a colourful imagination zone.

Parents and carers will be able to watch the action from a spacious seating area beside an expanded café, and a new party room will be created for birthdays and special events.

Councillor Lisa-Marie Hughes, Chair of OneRen, said: “I can’t wait for work to start on this fantastic new facility in Paisley.

“We recognise how important it is for families to have play opportunities for their children, as well the chance to socialise with friends or other parents and carers, and this new active play will provide this right in the heart of the town.

“In addition to the slides and equipment you would expect to see in a traditional soft play, there is a TAG arena which we know young people will love and we wanted to ensure there is provision for those with additional support needs too which is why there is a dedicated sensory area – it’s going to have something for everyone.”

The contract has been awarded to Alliance Leisure Services Limited, with the new active play facility expected to open in late summer 2026.
