A major regeneration specialist with strong links to Renfrewshire has been appointed to lead the next stage of development at the planned Scottish Marine Technology Park.

The Malin Group has named Elaine Troup as the project’s new Programme Manager, strengthening its ambition to create a centre of excellence for marine technology and advanced manufacturing on the banks of the Clyde.

The development — located at Old Kilpatrick — is expected to feature large manufacturing facilities, a deep-water jetty with a 1,100-tonne ship hoist, and space for smaller suppliers and contractors. It aims to bring significant economic and employment opportunities to the west of Scotland.

Elaine brings more than two decades of experience in delivering major regeneration schemes across Scotland. Her background includes strategic work in Paisley’s town centre regeneration and heritage-led improvements, as well as major projects in West Dunbartonshire and North Ayrshire.

Her appointment also has a clear Renfrewshire connection. The Malin Group employs more than 120 people across Renfrew, Glasgow and Aberdeen, with its Renfrew fabrication facility among the largest in Scotland. The site includes a heavy-load quay used to transport major structures by sea.

Malin Group Managing Director John MacSween said Elaine’s leadership will help take the Scottish Marine Technology Park to the next stage, with planning permission already in place and bioremediation works underway. He said the project has the potential to unlock new jobs and revitalise long-vacant land along the Clyde.

The Scottish Marine Technology Park covers almost 50 acres of brownfield land and features a 150-metre deep-water heavy-lift berth. An economic assessment by consultancy Stantec estimates the site could generate £125.4 million annually for the local economy, with more than 600 short-term jobs created during construction.

The Malin Grou describes the park as an opportunity to build a long-term employment and community hub for Scotland’s marine sector.
