Three members of staff from Hays Travel in Johnstone handed over a cheque for more than £2,600 after completing a half-marathon walk to support Quarriers’ children’s services.
Six staff took part in the challenge — Yvonne Barber, Jillian McLeod, Janice McCallum, Hazel Chittick, Rowan Houston and Abbie Clark — walking the equivalent of a half marathon in 4 hours and 22 minutes. They admitted training had been minimal and the recovery “sore for days”, but the fundraising result made it worthwhile.
The team originally hoped to raise £450, but donations from friends, family and the local community pushed the total to £1,300. The final amount reached £2,601.92 thanks to the Hays Local Community Partnership Scheme, which match-funds money raised for charities supporting children and mental health.
Quarriers said the donation will support local children’s services, including its Countryview Service, which provides short breaks and respite for children with disabilities and their families.
Branch Manager Yvonne Barber said the team were “thrilled” with the total raised and praised the community for backing their efforts.
Louise Strachan, Community Fundraiser for Quarriers, described the fundraising as “amazing” and said it will make a real difference to families relying on the charity’s support.
