The death of a woman found in Houston is now being treated as murder, Police Scotland has confirmed.
Officers were called to the Corsliehill Road area of Houston at around 7.50am on Monday, 27th July 2026, following a report of concern for a person.
Emergency services attended and found the bodies of Stacy Mair, 35, and a 43-year-old man nearby.
The couple have been named locally as Stacy Mair and her husband, Jim Mair, 43. They ran TRS Tree Removal Specialists together.
Following a post-mortem examination, Police Scotland said Mrs Mair’s death is now being treated as murder.
The force said the death of the 43-year-old man continues to be treated as unexplained pending the results of a post-mortem examination, which will take place in due course.
Renfrewshire News understands detectives are investigating the deaths as a suspected murder-suicide. Sources have told Renfrewshire News that Mrs Mair was killed by Mr Mair.
It is understood one of the couple’s two children later found Mrs Mair in a nearby hut, while Mr Mair was later found dead in nearby woods after a police search. His death remains unexplained pending the results of a post-mortem examination, although Renfrewshire News understands detectives believe he took his own life.
Detectives from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, along with local officers, are continuing extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances.
Police Scotland said there is nothing at this stage to suggest anyone else was involved or that there is any risk to the public.
Detective Chief Inspector Laura Young, of the Major Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts remain with the families of those affected by this incident.
“They are understandably devastated, and we are providing them with support through specialist officers at this incredibly difficult time.”

“I am grateful for the support we have received as we complete our essential enquiries to ensure the families and local residents get the answers they need.”
