Renfrewshire businesses which have been trading for at least 100 years are set to receive special recognition from the council.
The Renfrewshire Legacy Business Recognition scheme was approved by Renfrewshire Council’s Economy and Regeneration Policy Board on Tuesday 25th August 2026.
The scheme will recognise businesses which have made a long-standing contribution to Renfrewshire’s economy and communities.
Eligible businesses must have operated continuously for at least 100 years and have a significant connection to Renfrewshire.
Nominations are expected to open in September and can be submitted by businesses, members of the public, councillors and council officers.
Council officers will check each nomination against the qualifying criteria before a final list is confirmed.
Recognised businesses will be invited to a civic reception planned for January 2027.
They will receive a certificate and a commemorative plaque which can be displayed at their premises.
The businesses will also be promoted through the council’s website and social media channels.
Councillor Andy Doig told the board that Henderson’s the Florist in Johnstone was one business he believed would merit recognition under the scheme.
The council plans to review the scheme after its first year and could consider recognising businesses which have traded for 50 or 75 years in future.
