Renfrewshire Council has suspended its wasp nest removal service while its pest control team focuses on reports involving rodents.
The change was discussed at the council’s Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board on Wednesday 26th August.
Councillor Chris Gilmour asked when the service would return and whether the suspension could become permanent.
The board was told that the pest control team had recently experienced staff absences and was concentrating its available resources on the areas with the highest demand.
A council officer said: “The pest control team is a small team. We have had some issues with staff absence recently, and that is something that we are looking at.
“We have made a decision to look at the service demand. At the moment, the highest service demand is around rodent activity, so we have decided to focus on that and have advised residents that they can look at private contractors to deal with wasps.”
The council plans to review the service during the autumn.
No date was given for the return of wasp nest removals.
