A new community greenspace at Ferguslie Belltrees is set to open in early autumn after work began earlier this year.
The £600,000 project is transforming 2.69 hectares of long-term vacant and derelict land in Ferguslie Park.
An update was presented to Renfrewshire Council’s Economy and Regeneration Policy Board on Tuesday 25th August 2026.
Work began in January and is due to be completed by the end of August, with an official opening scheduled for early autumn.
The development will include new walking and cycling routes, natural play facilities, a community event space and new landscaped areas.
Native planting will support biodiversity, while drainage improvements will help manage surface water during heavy rain.
The shared walking and cycling routes will also improve links to nearby schools and services.
The work is being carried out by MacKenzie Construction Limited.
The project forms part of The Making of Ferguslie, a long-term community-led plan for the area.
It is being funded through the Scottish Government’s Vacant and Derelict Land Investment Programme and Place Based Investment Programme, with support from the UK Government’s Strategic Prosperity Fund.
The Ferguslie Green Line will create a new green corridor connecting key parts of the area.
Belltrees is the second major investment aimed at bringing long-term vacant land in Ferguslie Park back into use.
The Neighbourhood Centre Activity Space on Bankfoot Road was completed in autumn 2025.
It transformed a neglected site into a public space with a games area and community facilities.
The project received a gold award in the Public Realm/Landscape category at the 2026 Scottish Design Awards.
