GRID Braehead recorded a rise in visitors following the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The film was partly shot in Glasgow and released in the UK at the end of July.

Visitor numbers at GRID on its opening day, Wednesday 29th July, were 73.5 per cent higher than during the same period last year.

The number of visitors was close to the level GRID would normally expect on a Saturday.

GRID also recorded a year-on-year rise in daily visitor numbers through to Monday 10th August. Visits during the period were up by 28 per cent compared with last year.

Bruce Harley, manager at GRID Braehead, said: “Glasgow really got behind Spider-Man, so it’s fantastic to see that excitement reflected here at GRID. To have our usual Wednesday footfall and numbers approaching what we would normally see on a Saturday shows just how much of a buzz there was around the film.

“With part of the movie filmed right here in Glasgow, there was extra excitement around this release. Big films like Spider-Man are about more than a trip to the cinema, they give friends and families an excuse to get together, grab something to eat and enjoy everything else that’s on offer.

“We love seeing GRID at its busiest and the atmosphere that comes with it, and we’re looking forward to welcoming plenty more visitors throughout the rest of the summer. Our Summer Side Quests campaign gives visitors even more reasons to explore GRID, with a range of activities and experiences to discover across our leisure, entertainment and dining offer.”
