Police officers from Renfrewshire take part in major training exercise based on sporting events

Police officers from Renfrewshire were among more than 200 officers and staff who took part in a training exercise today.

Probationer Training instructors took new recruits to the Indodrill Stadium in Alloa for a day of scenarios based around sporting events.

The exercise taught recruits how to manage large groups of spectators, use the appropriate legislation and deal with identified offences.

Superintendent Steven Duncan, Head of Operational Training, said: “This exercise has allowed our probationary officers to gain exposure to high pressure and demanding situations in a controlled learning environment.

“We are continually looking to develop the content of the probationer training curriculum to reflect current operational demands, ensuring our recruits are well equipped for the real-life scenarios they will face.

“We’re grateful to the management team at Alloa FC for allowing us to utilise their venue for this exercise.”

Police officers receive 18 weeks of initial training at either the Police Scotland College at Tulliallan or the Jackton training facility before being deployed to communities across Scotland.
