Two new pedestrian crossings are planned near the M8 and Renfrew Road to improve routes towards the new Paisley Grammar School campus.
Details were revealed at Renfrewshire Council’s Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board on Wednesday 26th August.
Transport Scotland is preparing to install a push-button crossing at the M8 off-slip near Renfrew Road.
The council will follow this with a staggered pedestrian crossing on Renfrew Road, closer to the filling station.
It will provide a route from the Renfrew side of the road towards Paisley Grammar and serve two nearby bus stops.
Councillor Carolann Davidson raised concerns about the existing crossing arrangements.
She said: “There are going to be kids coming from Renfrew to the new grammar, and I tried to cross that crossing a couple of months ago, but I could not do it.”
The board was told: “Transport Scotland, if it has not started already, is imminently going to put a push-button crossing on the M8 offslip at that area, and we are going to come in behind it.
“We are going to put in a staggered pedestrian crossing on Renfrew Road further towards the filling station, which will take anyone coming from the Renfrew area safely down to the Paisley Grammar side of Renfrew Road.”
The council said no pupils currently on the school register were expected to use that route, but the crossings would prepare for pupils travelling from that direction in future.
The AMIDS South east-west link from Renfrew Road to the Paisley-to-Renfrew active travel route was completed on 15th June. Shared footpaths were included on both sides of the new road.
