More than 2,100 adults and children were supported through Renfrewshire Foodbank vouchers during the first quarter of 2026/27.
A total of 1,085 vouchers were issued, supporting 1,440 adults and 676 children.
The figures were presented to the Fairer Renfrewshire Sub-committee at its online meeting on Wednesday 2nd September 2026.
Demand was lower than during the same period last year, when 1,342 vouchers supported 1,775 adults and 854 children.
Paisley Northwest recorded the highest demand, accounting for 339 vouchers.
Paisley East and Central accounted for 129, while 105 were issued in Renfrew South and Gallowhill.
Bishopton, Bridge of Weir and Langbank recorded the lowest demand, with eight vouchers.
Single-adult households accounted for 594 vouchers.
Benefits were the only source of income for households receiving 910 of the vouchers.
The rising cost of essential items was the reason given in 412 cases.
Unexpected expenses accounted for 245 vouchers, while priority and non-priority debts were behind 177.
Council officers have met Renfrewshire Foodbank’s new chief executive and manager to discuss simplifying its referral process.
Advice Works and Renfrewshire Citizens Advice Bureau are also examining how advice can be provided to people requiring foodbank support.
