Bridge of Weir Primary School has become the first school in Renfrewshire to receive two excellent grades in an Education Scotland inspection.
The school and its Early Learning and Childcare Class (ELCC) received the top evaluations following an inspection which also saw the nursery awarded three very good grades.
The two excellent grades were awarded for ‘Learning, Teaching and Assessment’ and ‘Raising Attainment and Achievement’. Excellent is the highest grade available from Education Scotland.
Inspectors praised the quality of education provided at the school, highlighting how children are highly motivated and take an active role in their learning.
The report found that this approach helps pupils develop curiosity, creativity, independence and problem-solving skills.
The leadership of the headteacher and senior staff was described as highly effective. Inspectors also praised the sharing of professional learning between staff across the school and nursery.
Outdoor learning was another area recognised in the report, with inspectors describing the programme as high-quality and progressive. It was found to support children’s wellbeing and their appreciation of nature.
Headteacher Susan Bell said: “The inspection report is a wonderful recognition of the collective effort of the whole school community. I am very proud of the children, their enthusiasm, confidence, kindness and willingness to take responsibility for their learning and their school. I am also incredibly proud of our staff team. The inspection result is a reflection of the community where people care deeply, work together and genuinely want the very best for every child. It is a shared success.”
Councillor Emma Rodden, Renfrewshire Council’s Education Convener, welcomed the inspection findings.
She said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Bridge of Weir Primary School and ELCC. Everyone at the school and nursery should be immensely proud of this result.
“The two excellent grades are a remarkable endorsement of the hard work, dedication and commitment shown every day by staff, pupils and families.
“I would like to congratulate everyone on this outstanding result. Their hard work is making a positive difference to their children.”
Renfrewshire Council confirmed that all schools in the area inspected over the past two years have received positive evaluations, with grades of good, very good or excellent.
Janie O’Neill, the council’s Director of Children’s Services, said: “This inspection result showcases the outstanding leadership within the school, the innovative and engaging learning experiences provided for children, and the impressive attainment and achievement of pupils.
“I am incredibly proud of what has been achieved at Bridge of Weir Primary and ELCC, and also across Renfrewshire. Staff and pupils continue to work incredibly hard and this is reflected in the inspection result.”
