More families are settling into a new affordable housing development in Bishopton, where Loretto Housing Association is delivering 46 homes for social rent.

The housing association, part of Wheatley, has completed 24 homes at the Dargavel site which are already occupied by tenants. A further 12 homes have recently been completed.

The development is supported by £5.5 million in Scottish Government grant funding, with Loretto working alongside Renfrewshire Council.

One of the new tenants is 22-year-old Louise McDonald, who moved into her new home in August with her family.

Louise said: “It’s great to be able to move and it’s a good environment around me.

“I previously lived in a flat in Johnstone, and my kids couldn’t get out to play, so we’re looking forward to exploring the area.”

The development will provide energy-efficient one and two-bedroom cottage flats, including four wheelchair-accessible homes, alongside two and three-bedroom family houses.

All 46 homes will be available for social rent through Loretto.

Construction by Scottish housebuilder Dundas began in March 2025. The development is expected to be fully completed by the end of 2026.

James Ward, managing director of Loretto, said: “We’re committed to providing high-quality, affordable homes that meet the needs of individuals and families.

“These new homes at Dargavel will provide modern, energy-efficient accommodation and make a real difference by increasing the supply of much-needed social housing in Bishopton.

“We’re grateful for the support of the Scottish Government and our partners at Dundas in helping us deliver these much-needed homes.”

Billy Murphy, managing director of Dundas, said: “Dundas are delighted to have worked collaboratively with Loretto to deliver these much needed highly energy efficient, quality homes. The development team look forward to working with Loretto again. Hopefully in the not-too-distant future.”
