Sixteen suspected drug-related deaths and 35 near-fatal overdoses were recorded in Renfrewshire between April and August, according to a police report.
The figures cover 1st April to 31st August 2026 and will be presented to Renfrewshire Council’s Police and Fire and Rescue Scrutiny Sub-Committee on Tuesday, 27th October 2026.
Police Scotland says various controlled substances have been implicated in the suspected deaths.
Synthetics, benzodiazepines and cocaine feature most commonly, according to the report.
Local officers have been carrying out proactive initiatives and days of intensified activity.
They are also working with the Renfrewshire Alcohol and Drug Partnership to provide support, guidance and resources aimed at reducing drug-related harm.
The report does not provide a comparison with the number of suspected drug-related deaths or near-fatal overdoses during the same period last year.
The death figures are described as suspected drug-related deaths. All figures in the police report are provisional management information, rather than official statistics.
They were drawn from Police Scotland’s internal systems and extracted on 16th September 2026.
