Bishop John Keenan has been advised to step back temporarily from his duties for medical reasons, the Diocese of Paisley has announced.
Vicar General Monsignor Joe Burke will look after the day-to-day administration of the diocese during his absence.
In a statement asking people to pray for Bishop Keenan, the diocese said: “Please keep him in your prayers. We entrust his health to Our Lord and the intercession of Our Blessed Mother, praying for a full and speedy recovery.”
