Rachael Smith, 45, from Johnstone, has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Inspirational Woman of the Year award at the Women’s Business Awards.

The nomination recognises Rachael’s outstanding voluntary work in the Renfrewshire community through her involvement with Paisley Radio and the various community groups she runs and supports.

Rachael said: “I do lots in my local community. I volunteer as a presenter for an online radio station, presenting two online chat shows every week. I run a ladies’ social group which has over 1,800 women in it, and I regularly create fun events for smaller groups of us to meet up at.

“We do everything from murder mysteries to painting sessions, glass painting, jewellery making, walks, talks, tours, axe throwing, afternoon teas, meals out and loads more. The whole idea is about bringing people together. Some beautiful friendships have been formed through the group.

“I also use local venues and businesses for my events, and it’s good to support local businesses – they support me too. Most of the business owners are female, and it’s such a wonderful, strong female network.

“I’m also involved in a local heritage group where I create walks, talks and tours for the group members. Lots of people coming together over their love of local heritage and history. All of my work is interlinked and all about supporting people and businesses in the local and wider community.”

Rachael added: “I’m absolutely delighted that I’ve made it through to the final stage. Your support means the world to me, and I’d love your vote.”
