A new civic plaza, garden and events space will be created in Erskine to provide a focal point for the local community.

The project is the first phase of a wider plan to enhance the town centre, developed by Renfrewshire Council alongside local residents and community groups.

Using vacant land beside Erskine Sports Centre, the new plaza will offer a dedicated meeting space for local people and will be able to host community events and market stalls.

It will feature a recreational greenspace and garden with seating areas and natural play elements, as well as improved walking routes linking the town centre’s shops with the sports and medical centres, and the nearby waterfront.

Engagement with local people shaped the final designs, leading to additions such as natural play equipment, improved lighting on paths, infrastructure to support a Christmas tree, and new fencing and hedging around the site.

Councillor Andy Steel, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Economy and Regeneration Policy Board, said: “It’s great to see these proposals coming to fruition following close engagement with the local community in Erskine, who told us they felt the area was lacking a civic space for events.

“The new plaza and greenspace will make this area more attractive and encourage local people to visit, with the opportunity for markets or community events to be held here.

“We’re continuing to work hard to develop all our towns and villages, and this significant investment will make a positive difference to Erskine and everyone who lives there or visits.”

The project represents an investment of more than £500,000 and is being funded by Renfrewshire Council, the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund and the Scottish Government’s Place Based Investment Programme.

The contract has been awarded to Covanburn Contracts Limited, with work due to begin in early January 2026 and finish over the summer.
