Renfrewshire Foodbank is set to receive a £10,000 donation from the council following a motion agreed at full council.
Councillors also committed officers to working with local members and the foodbank to address parking issues affecting volunteers at the Paisley distribution centre.
Councillor Caroline Davidson told the chamber that volunteers are currently paying parking charges while giving their time to support families in crisis.
She said volunteers can be paying up to £18 a week to park while helping run the service, adding: “They don’t know how long they can sustain that cost.”
Members heard that the Paisley site is the only Renfrewshire Foodbank distribution centre affected by parking charges, and that volunteers are reluctant to claim expenses because they want as much funding as possible to go directly towards food support.
Councillor Ian McMillan welcomed the £10,000 donation, describing it as “very welcome at a very difficult time” and said officers had committed to working with local councillors to find a practical solution to the parking issue.
The amended motion was agreed unanimously.
