The countdown has officially begun to this year’s Paisley 10K and Fun Run, with entries now open ahead of the event on Sunday, 16th August.
Around 4,000 people are expected to take part, with places available for 2,500 runners in the 10K and 1,500 participants in the Fun Run. Entries close on 31st July.
OneRen has also announced a new sponsorship agreement with Specsavers Paisley for this year’s event. The races are also supported by Renfrewshire Council and Kilbarchan Amateur Athletics Club.
The Paisley 10K and Fun Run has become one of the biggest annual events in the town, attracting large crowds to the town centre and along the route. Many of those taking part in the Fun Run also raise money for charities.
Former Glasgow Rocks basketball player and OneRen board director Kieron Achara will start one of the races on the day.
He said: “With less than two months now to go until the Paisley 10K and Fun Run, excitement really is building. Many of our 10K runners have already been sharing some of their training stories with us.
“This is an event which really brings people together and benefits the whole town, so we are really looking forward to it.
“We are delighted to have Specsavers on-board as a key sponsor this year as we celebrate the health and wellbeing benefits that the events bring.”
Gail Thompson, store director at Specsavers Paisley, said: “The annual Paisley 10k is always a fantastic annual event for the town so we were thrilled to get involved this year as the main community sponsor.
“The health and wellbeing of the Paisley community has always been at the heart of our business at Specsavers, so we’re excited to be able to provide support to the 10k event and hope everyone has a fantastic time taking part.”
The Scottish Athletics-verified 10K follows a flat route through Paisley, including more than 3km along the Paisley Canal to Kilmacolm cycle track. It starts and finishes in County Square, outside Paisley Gilmour Street railway station.
The Fun Run follows a different route through the town and is open to anyone who wants to walk, jog, run or push a buggy.
Anyone wishing to take part has until 31st July to enter.
