Cammy Smith and Dale Hilson help Buddies to top of league

In an eventful match, it was goals by Cammy Smith and Dale Hilson that secured a 2-1 win for St. Mirren over Brechin City and a move to top spot. Todays attendance was 3928.  Just four minutes into the match, Brechin City appealed for a penalty after a freekick, but that appeal was denied.  After some back and forth, Cammy Smith succeeded in the 14 th minute.  A ball from Stephen McGinn was knocked by the goalkeeper by Cammy Smith.  1-0 Saints.

The 23rd minute saw a corner for Brechin, but it was well gathered by the Craig Samson.  In the 38th minute Brechin’s Kalvin Orsi, who stoops low to make it 1-1.

The two sides went to the dressing room level at 1-1.  Just before halftime the rain was teeming down, but the sun returned for the start of the second 45.  In the 51st minute Saints made their first change with Jordan Kirkpatrick replacing Ross Stewart.  in the 63rd minute Brechin made its first change when Kalvin Orsi replaced Ally Love.  This is followed by a second Saints change with Dale Hilson replacing Stelios Demetriou.

Buddies made the final substitution in the 76th with John Sutton coming on for Gavin Reilly.  In the 78th minute Lewis Morgan fired a powerful shot at the Brechin keeper, but Graeme Smith denied.  Dale Hilson, however, ensured the St. Mirren victory when he scored his first goal with the club, 2-1.

A successful Saturday afternoon match for the Buddies, which propelled them to the top spot of the League.
