Renfrewshire News reported recently that the centre will close because of funding problems. The Community Centre itself, operated by Renfrewshire Lesure, is not closing down.

The parents/guardians and the local community will have their chance to have their say on the impact that the closure will have on the service users and the wider community.

JCLC, said: “We are asking for your support and would ask that as many people attend as possible as the closure of our centre will not only affect the adult services and youth services that we provide it will affect everyone within our community.

“The loss of our centre will have a huge impact on the wider community as at the moment the youth club is at it’s busiest and we are seeing between 45 – 50 young people attending on a nightly basis without our centre these young people will have no where safe to meet and will be back on our streets.

“The adult services will also be a huge loss as people depend on these services for improving life skills/learning, they also attend for use of our IT equipment for help in securing jobs, we also have a busy focus group who provide social activities for people of all ages within our community.

“All of these services will not be accessible within our local area, so please if you care about our centre, please support us.”

The board of directors are hoping that Johnstone Castle’s elected members will be in attendance.
