Plans have been submitted to turn the former Barratt Homes sales office in Renfrew into a children’s day nursery.
Eastvale Scotland Ltd has applied to Renfrewshire Council to convert and extend the building at Mulberry Square, within the Ferry Village area.
The plans would see the roof of the existing single-storey building raised to create a second floor.
The proposed nursery would have eight playrooms across the two floors, providing around 189 square metres of dedicated play space.
Four playrooms would be on the ground floor alongside a kitchen, laundry, children’s and staff toilets and a parents’ pick-up area.
The first floor would contain another four playrooms, a staff room, two offices, a children’s toilet and storage areas.
Plans also include a children’s play and sensory area and community garden to the rear of the building.
The roof would be covered with solar panels and air source heat pumps are also proposed.
Planning documents state there would be 10 parking spaces, including four accessible spaces, as well as four covered cycle parking spaces for staff.
The building was originally constructed as a temporary sales office and show home for the wider residential development.
A similar proposal for a nursery at the site was previously refused by Renfrewshire Council but was allowed on appeal in April 2022.
Documents submitted with the latest plans state the new proposal would provide additional capacity compared with the previous scheme, which had capacity for 34 children.
The application form lists the site as covering 1,124 square metres, with the proposed nursery providing 470 square metres of non-residential floorspace.
The plans have been submitted to Renfrewshire Council and have not yet been decided.
