Only four of 63 new Children’s Services staff completed all nine corporate induction modules within their first 30 days, a council report shows.

Officers told councillors that the 6% completion rate did not reflect the full induction and safeguarding training taking place in schools.

The figures were discussed at Renfrewshire Council’s Education and Children’s Services Policy Board on Thursday, 29th October 2026.

The measure covers online corporate induction modules for new employees, with a target of 100% completion within 30 days.

Of the 63 new starters in the first quarter of 2026/27, 25 were teachers and 38 were non-teaching staff.

All four who completed the full set of modules within the deadline were non-teaching staff.

An education officer said: “It would not reflect that 94 per cent are not receiving induction.”

The officer said induction within schools and establishments was thorough and included safeguarding, with staff made aware of the school’s child protection co-ordinator.

Officers had met earlier that week and were working with human resources colleagues on how to capture training already delivered locally.

The aim was to make the measure reflect that work and avoid requiring staff to repeat equivalent training.

John Trainer, Head of Child Care & Criminal Justice, said: “Although that figure is quite stark—I appreciate that—it is not an accurate reflection of the induction activities that are taking place across our schools and establishments.”

The report separately records mandatory training completion at 77%, up from 61% in the second quarter of 2025/26, but still below the 100% target.
