Ten early years services in Renfrewshire are on improvement programmes after receiving inspection grades below good, according to a council report.
The total comprises nine funded providers and one council service.
The figures were presented to Renfrewshire Council’s Education and Children’s Services Policy Board on Thursday, 29th October 2026 as part of its service improvement monitoring report.
The proportion of funded early years provision graded good or better fell from 88.7% in 2023/24 to 84% in 2024/25.
That compares with a Scottish average of 89% and an average of 92% among the group of councils used for comparison with Renfrewshire.
Services graded below good are placed on a Service Improvement Period.
They must follow an action plan and receive additional support, with improvements expected to bring them back to good or better at their next Care Inspectorate inspection.
The report cautions that reliable comparisons between years and council areas are difficult because the number of inspections carried out can vary.
It also suggests that the decline could be linked to increasing expectations under the inspection framework and national standards.
The board noted the monitoring report.
