Barrhead musician and businessman Tom Arthur kicked off his Holyrood election campaign with a public meeting in Johnstone.

Speaking in Houston Square, Tom said it was an honour to be the SNP candidate for Renfrewshire South. He was brought up and educated in the area, and his family has lived there for five generations.

Explaining his decision to stand for election, Tom said: “I believe that together we can build a stronger, fairer and more prosperous Renfrewshire South.

“Over the coming weeks my campaign team and I will be contacting every household across the constituency to begin a conversation about how we can make our local communities better.

“Under an SNP Government we have seen the regeneration of our town centres, local schools being rebuilt, new town halls and sports facilities, huge investment in affordable housing, and an expansion of free childcare.

“The election in May is an opportunity to build on this progress and continue moving Renfrewshire South and Scotland forward, with an SNP government led by Nicola Sturgeon. The alternative is turning the clock back to the bad old days of being ruled by the branch offices of the Westminster parties.”

And he reminded voters: “Only by giving both votes to the SNP can we be sure that we’ll have a government that will always put Scotland first.”
