Police have appealed for sixteen year olds to help carry out alcohol test purchases in various licensed premises.
You need to be aged 16 to 16 and a half years old and will be paid £20 for approximately 4 hours work.
Police Scotland said: “An opportunity has arisen for young persons aged between 16 and 16 and a half to work alongside Police Scotland and carry out test purchases for alcohol in various licensed premises. Any young person who assists will be paid £20 for approximately 4 hours work.
“Police Scotland are continually visiting licensed premises to maintain the high standard expected of Licensees and staff.
“Initially, a home visit will take place with the young person, in the presence of a parent or guardian where Police Scotland will participate in a very informal chat. Each young person would be subject to a vetting procedure to ensure they are suitable to carry out this operation. Should the young person agree to assist Police Scotland then their parent or guardian would sign an agreement form.
“A passport sized photograph of the young person is also requested. A risk assessment will be carried out by Police Scotland on the targeted premises prior to the test purchase operation.
“During the operation 3 Police Officers will attend with the young person, all in plain clothes and utilising an unmarked Police vehicle.
“One officer, of the same gender as the young person, will attend in the premises shortly followed by the young person. The young person would attend the alcohol section and select an alcoholic product. They would thereafter attempt to pay for this item using a £10 note provided by Police Scotland. The plain clothes Police officer would be monitoring the young person during the whole visit.
“Should the young person be asked to provide proof of age the Police officer would then intervene as the premises would have passed the test purchase operation. Should the young person be served, the Police Officer would intervene once the transaction is complete. In either circumstances the young person would then be escorted to the unmarked Police vehicle in the company of another Police officer.
“Should a premises fail the test purchase, then a report would be sent to the Procurator Fiscal. The identity of the young person will be protected at all times, however it must be noted the Procurator Fiscal can request the young person to attend court as a witness, during which time their details may be passed to the Procurator Fiscal only. Once at court, further arrangements can be made to protect their identity.
