Steven Kerr, manager of Aldi’s Printers Place store in Paisley, has marked 20 years with the retailer.
Steven, 55, moved into retail management after working in the ten pin bowling industry. He wanted a job closer to his Paisley home before the birth of his first daughter.
“It’s hard to believe it’s been twenty years already. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I ever made.
“At the time I was commuting to Edinburgh every day and the travelling was becoming too much. I wanted to work closer to home, especially with my first daughter on the way.
“I’m definitely a bit of a homebody.”
Steven still lives in Paisley with his wife and their daughters, Sophie, 20, and Lucy, 16. The store overlooks the primary school he attended.
“I can hear the school bell ringing and the kids out playing during the day,” he said. “It’s strange sometimes because I went to that school myself. I like being part of the local community and working so close to home.”
Steven said helping colleagues progress has been the highlight of his role.
“I love training people and seeing them develop,” he said. “Watching someone go from store assistant to store manager is incredibly rewarding.”
He recently oversaw the reopening of the Printers Place store following a refurbishment and extension.
