A man was captured on video trying to kill another man after a “sex party” went wrong, a court heard.

David Law repeatedly stabbed Jamie Coyle after the 61-year-old hooked up with the victim and his then partner at a house in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, in May 2025.
Mr Coyle had earlier contacted Law via the “fabswingers” website.

Prosecutor Alasdair Shaw told the High Court in Glasgow: “They exchanged phone numbers and a number of messages.

“It was agreed Law would attend and it appears that he was expecting to engage in sexual intercourse.”

The advocate depute said £150 was exchanged between the two men after first-offender Law turned up.

But the court heard the attacker’s threesome hopes were scuppered when it emerged “no sexual activity was going to take place.”

Mr Coyle asked Law to leave – but he said he was only going if he got his cash back.

Mr Coyle refused and a raging Law challenged him, shoved him and warned he would “f*** him up”.

Law, of Cambuslang, Lanarkshire, then got his hands on a kitchen knife before turning the blade on the victim.

Mr Shaw said: “He lunged at Mr Coyle and stabbed him in the centre of the chest.”

Mr Coyle initially escaped to a bedroom and managed to grab his phone to film Law.

The video, played to the court, showed Mr Coyle’s then partner pleading for Law not to hurt him.

But Law threatened: “I am going to fing kill him. See that phone, I will take that phone off you and I will fing stamp on it.”

Law went on to inflict another four knife blows on the man’s chest and upper body.

Mr Coyle’s lover pleaded with Law not to touch her. She fled the scene after leaping out of a living room window she smashed with a mug to escape.

Law ditched the knife in a sink before police arrived. He was discovered sitting on a couch with a badly hurt Mr Coyle nearby.

Law stated: “It was me, I stabbed him. It was a sex party.”

He later admitted to other officers he had “jabbed” the man with a blade.

Law added: “Aye, I stabbed him twice and I will tell you what – if there was a third time, I would have stabbed him in the neck and killed him.”

He also told how he had gone to the house after an “agreement” on “fabswingers”. There was then a row over the cash and he got a knife from the kitchen.

Despite the earlier remarks, Mr Shaw stated Law appeared to have “difficulty remembering” what he had done when discussing it with police.

The prosecutor said: “He said the woman stripped down to her underwear and she was screaming.

“He then heard a loud crash. He went into the living room, there was blood on the blinds. He lifted them and saw the window to be smashed and the woman lying outside.”
The court heard the victim suffered a total of five stab wounds resulting in a collapsed lung. He needed vital life-saving surgery.

Law was sentenced having admitted to an attempted murder charge.

Lord Mulholland jailed Law for five years, cutting the term from seven and a half years due to the guilty plea.

The judge said: “You stated an intention to kill your victim. If it had not been for the skill of the medical team, you could have been facing a charge of murder.

“The background to this is alarming. Your reaction was extreme and foolhardy. A man who finds himself in court for the first time is very sad.

“But, as these courts have often said, you use a knife then there will be a heavy price to pay.”
