A Valued Friend
LORRAINE WILSON, Treasurer and stalwart of the Family Support Group, died recently and suddenly. She leaves a grieving family, and many friends. Th s event will be dedicated to her memory.
There is no doubt that her life was warped by the danger and hurt caused to her family by the Drugs Trade.
Isolation, blame, guilt and stigma. It is easier to personalise than to recognise the Deceptions, Betrayal and Bitterness that Addictions create.
We say that the damage must stop somewhere – and that Survival begins at a Family Support Group.
Join us, please, in a salute to the everyday heroes of our communities, people you would walk past in the street, anonymous folk who deal with some of the worst that life can throw – and still stand up and dare to fight back.
Families – Warriors. Respected. Undefeated. Caring and Cared For. A Light in the Dark Places.

REMARKS : This event was very much planned by Lorraine, and is intended to discuss the great need for family support in the face of the Drugs Trade, which robs and belittles so many of our families and communities.
Today’s centrepiece is the play ‘Fathers Day’ which was created at the formation of the Scottish Network of Family Support Groups, more than fifteen years ago.
Renfrewshire Family Support Group is one of the few surviving groups -we have sister groups Glasgow and Stirling as well as SFAD and Scottish Drugs Forum here today- thanks to the experience and dedication of Caroline Stuart and the Council.
Fathers’ Day is directly based on individual testimonies, and has had an influence over the years. It remains the only drama ever performed within the Debating Chamber at Holyrood Parliament but it has also been in Theatres, clubs and halls, and anywhere it has been wanted – and needed. And now, all these years later, here we all are gathered to talk about our lives and our ideas.
The Play is Art and that means you will find yourself thinking about it for a long time – and that is what it is for. But today we would like you to think about this one person, and his situation, and his story – and add yourself to the story so that we can work out what is best for him, for his granddaughter, for his daughter – for all of us.
