Across the world, Scouts from nearly every country are busy preparing for a trip to the 24th World Scout Jamboree.
Amongst them are Scouts from the West and South West of Scotland who have spent nearly two years planning, raising funds and training to take part in what is expected to be the greatest adventure of their lifetime.
At the World Scout Jamboree, 45,000 Scouts will come together in wild and wonderful West Virginia to share skills and live with young people from around the world.
Lauren Rodgers, aged 17 from Erskine will be attending, she said: “I’m really excited to go away and immerse myself in different cultures from around the world, and meet tons of new people. I’m especially looking forward to all the different activities to try on site and to explore DC and NYC and spend time with the Candian scouts. Back in February for one of our training camps we went to Poland so I’m really eager to meet up with those scouts again! I’m also excited to bring back the skills I learn and use them to encourage other scouts to go to international events such as a world jamboree!”
Oliver Gibson, aged 17 from Paisley, said: “I am incredibly excited to attend the world jamboree in West Virginia. We were selected to attend just under 2 years ago and are now in the final stages of preparation before we attend. I am looking forward to meeting and experiencing new people from different cultures as well as taking part in the huge number of activities available on site.”
Between the opening and closing ceremonies, participants will have the opportunity to take part in literally hundreds of activities focused on discovering new cultures, the environment, skill development and global development issues.
One of the Volunteers, Rob Murray from Paisley, said: “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend the Jamboree alongside 45,000 young people from nearly every country in the world. I am very proud of the journey our young people and volunteers have been on as they develop skills for life that they can use in work, at school and in their local communities. This international expedition will have a legacy in communities right across the regions for many years to come.
Volunteer Scott Adams, also added: “It’s amazing to be part of this journey with our incredible young people, I’ve already seen them grow in confidence and gain new skills. The jamboree will give us memories that last a lifetime and the training we have already taken part in will benefit our communities for years to come.”
The 24th World Scout Jamboree runs from Monday, 22nd July until Friday, 2nd Aug 2019.
