Renfrewshire’s children are set for some summer fun when the Skoobmobile comes to visit during the school holidays.

With arts and crafts, special animation sessions and the Tesco Bank Summer Reading Challenge, there is always something to do on board the bus.

The Skoobmobile will be outside these venues:

  • Gallowhill Community Centre – every Tuesday, 1.30pm to 3.00pm, from 30 June to 4 August
  •  Auchenlodment Primary, Johnstone Castle – every Wednesday, 10.00am to 11.30am, from 1 July to 5 August
  •  Mossvale/St James Primary, Gockston Road – every Thursday, 10.00am to 11.30am, from 2 July to 6 August
  •  Johnstone Community Sports Hub – every Friday, 10.00am to 11.30am, from 3 July to 7 August

Councillor Jim Harte, Chair of Renfrewshire Leisure Ltd, said: “The Skoobmobile is bringing a packed programme of fun right into the heart of local communities, meaning children don’t need to live right next to a library to benefit from it. And it will be visiting four stops all through the summer holidays, so there is something to look forward to each week.

“The summer reading challenge is a great way for children to get into the reading habit. There is a huge variety of books on offer, so there is something for everyone. Plus, everyone that signs up has a chance of winning a top prize for their school.

“Children can also get interactive by making a lego movie at four animation sessions. With a high demand expected, people are advised to get there early for these one-off sessions.

“If that wasn’t enough, we’re also holding a special record breaking Reading Pledge attempt on Saturday 11 July at Erskine, Johnstone and Renfrew libraries between 11am and 12pm. I hope as many people will join us on the day.”

All sessions are first come, first served. The animation sessions are open to children aged 8 – 12 on Wednesday 15 July at Auchenlodment Primary, Tuesday 21 July at Gallowhill Community Centre, Friday 24 July at Johnstone Community Centre and Thursday 30 July at Gockston Road – with a maximum number of 10 children per session.

A Read, Discover, Learn bus will also be visiting Brookfield, Elderslie, Houston, Howwood, Inchinnan, Kilbarchan and Langbank.
