Local train passengers can now park in the new Johnstone train station car park.
An extra 83 spaces have been built following the construction of a second level to the existing car park.
The capacity before was 340, increasing to 423 spaces and 13 spaces for Blue Badge holders.
Eddie Devine, Renfrewshire Council environment convener, said: “We have campaigned for many years to get more car parking at Johnstone station and I am pleased that with the help of SPT we have delivered on this commitment.
“As well as assisting people who need to park at the station, this investment will contribute to economic activity across the town centre and compliment the recently opened flagship Johnstone Town Hall.”
SPT assistant chief executive, Eric Stewart, said: “I’m delighted that in working closely with partners, this facility has been significantly enhanced, making public transport use a more viable and attractive option for the local community.
“SPT is committed to strengthening the transport network where possible and I’m confident the investment at Johnstone station will do just that.”
“This is one of the largest car parks on Scotland’s rail network and the enhancements to this facility, funded through a partnership between Transport Scotland, SPT, ScotRail and Network Rail, are vital to cater for the increasing numbers of passengers using the station as part of their daily commute.
“This investment will also mean local residents can look forward to reduced congestion from vehicles parking in the streets near the station.”
