An online petition has been launched aimed at reversing plans to charge for passenger drop offs at Glasgow Airport.

Glasgow Airport announced this week that they are planning on building a dedicated pick-up and drop-off facility – costing £2 a time to use.

The current pick-up and drop-off areas will move to the ground floor of the new facility which will be located directly opposite the main terminal building. Construction work is underway and the new facility will open to the public at the end of April.

The petition, sitting at over 6,100 signatures at 8am on Saturday morning, was set up by Paisley Resident John Simm on the Change.org website, he wrote: “[Glasgow Airport] Please reconsider your plan to levy inappropriate charges for dropping off passengers at your airport.

“We feel that this is an unreasonable charge and although you offer a free Drop off at your long stay car park this is too far for some elderly or disabled passengers to walk.

“A compromise of a set amount of free Drop off and Pick up time which would allow for the swift transfer of passengers should be enough to ease congestion in and around the airport.”

The airport will continue to offer a free pick-up and drop-off area which will be located in the long stay car park. Customers can park for free for up to 30 minutes and a shuttle bus, which takes approximately five minutes and runs every 10 minutes, will take customers directly to and from the main terminal building.
