Police have issued a warning to residents in the Renfrewshire area to be extra vigilant when discussing financial details to either cold callers to their homes or over the phone.
On Monday (13th March 2017) an 80-year-old woman in the Bishopton area was conned out of a large sum of money after being persuaded to withdraw money from her account.
Detective Constable Louise Kane at Johnstone CID said: “I urge anyone who is asked to provide details about their personal finance or existing bank accounts not to do so unless they know who they are speaking to.
“If in doubt you should ask for identification or take a phone number that you can call back on. If you are suspicious in any way, please contact police immediately.
“I’d also like to speak to anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously, or any vehicles causing suspicion on Monday 13 March in the Bishopton area.
“Anyone with information or who thinks they may also been victim of a fraudulent scheme is asked to contact Johnstone CID via 101.”
