Scottish Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) candidates to stand in Renfrewshire for council elections

TUSC are standing in two wards in Renfrewshire in the forthcoming council elections.

Scottish TUSC candidate for Erskine and Inchinnan, Jim Halfpenny said “Since the last election tens of millions have been cut from Renfrewshire council. We need councils and the Scottish government to refuse to implement Tory austerity and set no cuts budgets instead. This could be done by building a mass campaign of trade unions and communities to fight for jobs and services and demand a return of the billions in austerity. There is a lot of justified anger at Labour implementing the cuts in the council. But people in Renfrewshire remember the SNP/ Liberal coalition making cuts before them and in the Scottish government with the support of the Greens. We need socialist councillors who’ll refuse to vote for cuts and organise a fightback.”
Scottish TUSC candidate for Renfrew South and Gallowhill Richard Neville said “TUSC are also fighting the jobs massacre in Renfrewshire and the brutal NHS cuts. We call for and support a trade union fightback to save local jobs at Chivas, Doosan Babcock and DWP Lonend. Health provision in Renfrewshire faces cuts including the children’s ward at the RAH. We are demanding the SNP government provide the funding to stop this devastation. We stand for socialism – for the billions not the billionaires.”

Jim is a EIS teachers union activist who was the socialist candidate in Erskine and Inchinnan in 2012
Richard lives in Gallowhill is a care worker and was involved in organising the campaign against the bedroom tax.

Other Scottish TUSC policies include: Scrap trident, invest in jobs, No to the bosses EU, For a socialist Europe, For an independent Socialist Scotland. See here for our core policy manifesto http://www.tusc.org.uk/17346/06-03-2017/scottish-tusc-agrees-core-policies-for-mays-local-elections
