The Bascule Bridge will be re-opened to vehicles from 10am this morning, Sunday 27th August 2017.
The Category A listed Bascule Bridge in Inchinnan, which straddles the White Cart River in Renfrew, has had essential mechanical works carried out to lengthen its lifespan and ensure it retains the ability to open and close when required.
Scaffolding has been removed and the finishing touches to the road have been completed.
Tests are still to be carried out on the bridge opening but it’s expected this will be done without any extra closures.
Local Councillor John Shaw, Renfrew North and Braehead said yesterday: “There’s good news and there’s bad news. Thankfully the bad news should only concern you if you are sailing down the river in a big boat.
“The test lift has not taken place this weekend due to some of the engineering works not being complete, this should happen without the need for any further closures, if one is needed though then it will be on a short term overnight basis.
“The good news, however, is that the scaffolding is down and the only other thing that was stopping the bridge from opening to traffic was the lack of an anti-skid surface on the roadway at the metal ends. I’m delighted to say that work was completed today to ensure the surface is in place and that the bridge will reopen for all traffic just after 9am tomorrow.”
Renfrewshire Council thanked road users for their patience while the works were carried out.
