Police Scotland have confirmed that a body found in Old Patrick Water, Elderslie yesterday may be missing man Barry McCullagh.

Although formal identification has yet to take place, Barry’s family have been informed.

Barry, from Castlemilk, Glasgow, had been a patient at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) at the time of his disappearance. He’d been receiving treatment as he had been suffering from seizures and hallucinations.

The 40-year-old was last seen near RAH on Corsebar Road in Paisley on Wednesday, 5th October 2022 and has been missing since.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.15 pm on Sunday, 26 March 2023, police were called to a report of a body of a man in Old Patrick Water, Elderslie, Johnstone.  Officers and emergency services are at the scene and enquiries are ongoing.

“Although formal identification has yet to take place, the family of Barry McCullagh, who has been missing from the Paisley area since Wednesday, 5 October 2022, have been informed.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were requested at 6.53pm on Sunday, 26th March to assist our emergency service partners in Elderslie.

“Operations Control mobilised two water rescue units and two fire appliances to the town’s Glen Gardens, where firefighters assisted their police partners before leaving the area.

“Crews reattended the scene as of 9.20am on Monday, 27th March to continue to support their partners.”
